Portfolio Project I: Realistic Self Portrait
Introduction
For our first portfolio project, you will be creating a realistic self portrait. You will apply your knowledge of left vs. right brain thinking as well as contour line drawing.
Learning Outcomes
- Session One: Examine the purpose and role of creating a self-portrait through a look into art history and a self-reflection.
- Session Two: Create a grid, apply knowledge of the left vs. right brain functions, exhibit contour line drawing skills and employ a grid to construct a proportionate drawing.
- Session Three: Identify different pencil grades and produce a value scale.
- Session Four: Develop shadows, highlights, and texture using problem solving skills to determine which tools and techniques to use.
- Session Five: Evaluate own work and work of others to measure level of craft and attention to detail.

7x10 black and white photo of student, ½ sheet Canson drawing paper, sketching pencils, erasers, sharpeners, paper towels or other blending tools, viewfinders
