About Me
Katy Mathes
Artist/Designer/Visual Arts Instructor
My unique set of life and career experiences lends itself to a great appreciation and understanding of the processes and effort required to bring a successful project to fruition. Whether it be designing instruction, teaching art to kindergartners, managing a crew at a music festival, creating wedding invitations, concert posters, a sculpture or a permanent structure, I show excellence in my work. My meticulous attention to detail can be seen in everything I do.
I have been providing visual arts instruction for kindergarten through fifth grade students at Peak to Peak Charter School since 2008. I believe the arts are an essential ingredient in a child’s growth and development. Beyond building sensory and motor skills, art making is a powerful venue for expression and communication. The tools students learn in elementary art help them think critically and creatively across disciplines and in all aspects of their lives. Creative minds are what move us forward, and as elementary art teacher at Peak to Peak I strive to foster creative excellence in my students and cultivate a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
I am currently pursuing my Master's degree in Education, Leadership and Emerging Technologies at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. The degree focuses on mastering fluency in technologies for the purpose of instructional design as well as how to effectively lead, engage and communicate with an audience. The program allows me to feed my creative desire for art and design while propelling my elementary art curriculum and engendering a future in instructional design and technology.
